The performance of SSLC March 2006 and March 2007 of our school is given below. For March 2007 SSLC batch MRVTI has helped in conducting ‘Sunday Classes’ for 13 Sundays, each Sunday of 4 hours tutorials from 9.00 AM to 1.00 PM for all SSLC students of our school. I’ve found improvement in results – not only number of students passing SSLC increased, but in general, all students performed better and got better results.
Thanks to MRVTI for offering this service.
Subject 2005-06 (201 students) 2006-07(184 students)
Mathematics 78% 87%
Science 82% 89%
Social Science 90% 92%
Key Issues & Challenges:

  • Motivating students to come on Sunday for tutorials is a big challenge. Providing them snacks (milk & biscuits) and inspirational lectures and guidance by MRVTI has been a great help.
  • Teachers usually want to spend Sundays with their family. It’s really demanding for them to take on any work on Sundays. We have successfully persuaded 4-6 teachers of my school to come on Sundays and take classes. Through MRVTI’s incentive scheme of Rs 100 per hour per teacher, We are compensating the teachers for the additional time and effort they are putting up.
  • Total involvement with the students is essential for the success of our mission of shaping their futures. Since most of students belong to economically lower class, they don’t get appropriate environment at their home for study. So our objective has been to give them less of home-assignments and focus more on classroom-assignments. This approach not only provide students with supporting environment for their study, but they also work together with other students for a common goal. We’ve made study group of students comprising of brighter and weaker students.
  • Teachers have identified 5-8 academically weakest students in the classes and are giving them personal attention.
  • Teachers are also using past questions and exam blue-prints to give students practice test papers.
  • One major problem that we are facing is, out of 160 students, only 85 are attending ‘Sunday Classes’. We need to find out ways to increase students involvements.
  • Girls are, in general, doing better than boys.

Modular Employable Skills – an Initative of Government of India

Modular Employable Skills Training

Hon’ble Minister of Finance in his budget speech 2005-06 announced:To meet the demand for specific skills of a high order, a Public Private Partnership between Government and Industry is proposed to promote skills development programme under the name ‘Skill Development Initiative Scheme”.

Directorate General of Employment and Training (DGE&T), Ministry of Labour & Employment (MoLE), is the nodal body for formulating policies, laying down norms, standards, conducting trade test and certification of vocational training.

Highlights

Vocational Training is provided to youth with the objective to prepare semi-skilled workers for the industry. 1. Educational qualification varies from class VIII pass to Class XII pass.2. Duration of training varies from six months. 3. Trainees after completion appear in the All India Trade Test to obtain National Trade Certificate awarded by National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT), 4. Certificate is recognized within the country and abroad.5. NCVT formulates policies and procedures, prescribing standards, norms for schemes with representatives from the Central and State governments, employers organizations, workers organizations and training experts.

Features of the Scheme

Objectives are:To provide vocational training to school leavers, existing workers, ITI graduates, to improve their employability by optimally utilizing the infrastructure available in Govt., private institutions and the Industry. Existing skills of the persons be tested and certified under this scheme.

Key Features of the SchemeDemand driven short term training courses based on Modular Employable Skills (MES) sufficient for gainful employment.Central government will facilitate and promote training. Private sector will train the persons with flexible timings (part time, weekends, full time to suit needs. Testing of skills of trainees by independent assessing bodies, which would not be involved in training delivery, to ensure that it is done impartially.Certificates will be nationally and internationally recognized.

Public Private Partnership (PPP) active participation of Private Sector at every stage of design and implementation of the scheme.

Project Output One million persons would be trained or their existing skills tested and certified, over a period of five years. Modules for employable skills as per Industry and market demands would be identified and course curriculum developed.

Age of participants Minimum age is 14 years but there is no upper age limit.

Curriculum Development Process

  • Development of training modules corresponding to skills set identified
  • Development of detailed curriculum
  • Approval by the NCVT

Instructional Media Packages To maintain uniform quality of training all over the country, instructional media packages (IMPs) will be developed by the National Instructional Media Institute (NIMI),

Training under the Scheme

Vocational Training Providers (VTPs)VTPs will provide counselling & vocational guidance, training facilities as per norms, impart good quality training, post training support to trainees in getting employment, maintain data base on trainees trained and the outcome of the training. They will track the trainees till they get gainfully employed. VTP will also be required to have close networking with the industry for immediate placement of the trainees. VTPs have necessary powers to collect the training fee from trainees.

Testing and Certification

Assessing BodiesDGE&T will appoint assessing bodies to assess the competencies of the trained persons.

Testing Centres (TCs)Assessment of the persons will be done in designated Testing Centres four times a year by assessing bodies.

Assessment/Testing FeeAssessment fee for a non-engineering course will be Rs 800/-. The details of such courses along with assessment fee are given in Annex-II.

Reimbursement of Assessment FeeInitially Rs.500-800/person will be fixed as assessment fee depending upon the skill area to be assessed. The assessment fee will be reimbursed to all the successful persons who have received training from approved VTPs.

CertificateSuccessful persons will be awarded certificates issued by National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT).

Internal efficiency : The internal efficiency deals with performance and outputs of training institutions with regard to the numbers of students enrolled, retained and successfully graduated. Considering nature of scheme, Pass rate (Percent of candidates who passed the trade test out of those appeared for the trade test) will be used as a measure of internal efficiency.

External efficiency : The external efficiency deals with outcomes that reflect the impact of training on employability of graduates and therefore can only partially be controlled by training institutes. Table below provides a structure of the external efficiency indicators.

Indicators Formula

  • Labour market success of graduates Percentage of graduates who are in wage employment, or self -employed or employer, or joined family business
  • Satisfaction of graduates with the training received Percentage of graduates who reported high satisfaction or satisfaction with the quality of training
  • Satisfaction of employers with the skills of graduates Percentage of surveyed employers reported high satisfaction or satisfaction with the skills of graduates that they employ

Vocational Training Providers

i. Counselling & vocational guidanceii. Providing good quality trainingiii. Providing training in a flexible mode to suit trainees needsiv. Post training support to traineesv. Maintaining information on trainees trained and outcome of training
